More practice with the future.

We've started a new academic year and we have to deal with the future tenses again. First let's start with some information about it and then, as usual, let's do something with it in order to be able to use  it well. 

Neither, Either, both.

     Imagine that you have seen the guy you like. This guy has a twin brother and a younger sister who is your best friend. Although you are only interested in any of them, you want to know how to use both, either or neither in order to speak about them without mentioning their names. Well, I hope I can help you with that! And in order to help you further, I will make you practise it with the following activity. If I were you, I wouldn't miss it for all the tea in China. However, come to think of it, I don't like tea that much. 

How are you feeling?

     These days due to the past heatwaves, the air conditioning and the changes in temperature, we are all likely to feel a bit under the weather. There are many reasons why we might feel so, but we are supposed to be able to express what's wrong with us if somebody asks the question. Are you ready to learn some vocabulary and expressions about being ill and how to deal with it? I hope so.  And now, will you test your knowledge with this interactive activity. I think so. 

"Like" versus "as"

Do you think you can use "like" and "as" without a problem? Would you like to do so? Other versus Another

Other and another are likely to be mistaken at some point or another. But, from today onward, nobody will do it, will they? First, let's have a look at some information about this issue. And then, shall we practise it with the following interactive exercise.

     It is said that mastering a new language involves using idioms correctly and naturally. Can we do that? Well, maybe not with some of them, so the sooner  we get acquainted with their meanings, the better it will be for our spoken and written English. Shall we start?

Do you remember being late for a job interview and being forced to explain why you were late? Likewise, it is often necessary to express result or purpose. And that's why I will offer you some information on this issue apart from the opportunity to practise it while having a good time either on your own or with company.

Who stands by you through thick and thin?

When you're feeling down and you can only see an empty glass in front of you, there's always somebody who comes to your rescue and lets you see the bright side of things. I recommend this Song to all to those without whom I'd feel forsaken and to those who believe that unconditional love does still exist!

Money, money, money

We have all heard that money makes the world go round. But is it really true? For all those who are always thinking about making a better world by working in NGOs, it isn't. And neither is for me. But it is part of the syllabus, so let's discuss money! First some money-related vocabulary. And then, why not testing your knowledge with a cloze activity? It might be entertaining! Don't you think?

Who dislikes prepositions?

I do. More than anything else on the face of the earth. But, do you think they are going to disappear? Do not dare, they will not!  So, we'd better come to terms with the idea of getting acquainted with them. Don't you think? First, we have prepositions of place and movement and we have dependent prepositions. Do you think you will pass this test? I hope so. 

Is there a perfect future?

It is said that our future is uncertain, but we should be certain that we know how to express future for every given situation. Are we able to do that? Auxiliary verbs

Auxiliary verbs have been part of our lives,  from the moment we started learning English as a second language. But, do we know them well enough to be able to define them or at least to identify them in all kinds of sentences? This is the goal in this post. Are you ready to face the challenge?

The Media

 If the results in June haven't been as good as you expected, don't worry too much! September is within arm's reach. However, you should start practising as soon as possible. Wouldn't you like to be able to talk about the media? Here you'll find some vocabulary and questions about it. Nevertheless, wouldn't it be better to check that you have the command of this vocabulary under control? Do it with the following activity. 

Transport and travel

Transport and travel: another topic you are likely to deal with. I am pretty sure you will do well without looking at this. However, getting some help is not bad, isn't it? That's why I will provide you with some vocabulary 

and an activity that makes you think about the aforementioned topic. You will do it perfectly well, won't you?

Environmental issues

The June exams are almost done, but you may not know if you will have your B1 certificate on this occasion.  Don't worry! September will offer you the chance to pass the exam with flying colours.  Have you stopped to think that you might have to talk about environmental issues?. Do you think you know enough vocabulary about this topic to succeed? I hope so, but if this is not the case, revise the vocabulary here and do the guessing game in Educaplay. Try your luck and enjoy yourself! 

Internet

Whether we like it or not, the Internet has come to stay and is not likely to leave any time soon. So, why don't we start making the most of it? But to do so, we need to have a more thorough knowledge of the matter. To start with, let's have a look at some of the vocabulary and put it into practice, Shall we? 

Work

The certificate exam is getting closer and closer and it would be a good idea to think about the vocabulary that may be used to speak about this topic, the questions that candidates could be asked by their peers or the things you would like to talk about. Now I suggest that you spend a couple of minutes doing this guessing game. I am pretty sure you will manage to do it.

Reporting verbs

Using reporting verbs is easier than you think. Reporting verbs help you in order to use fewer words in reported speech. Have a look at this document and you will improve your ability to use them. Is everything clear? If the list contains verbs you don't understand, visit this other page and reporting verbs will be much more understandable. Don't you think? But then, you will want to do some practice or check that you know them really well. Do this activity! It is enjoyable and you will surely be able to use these verbs as if you were a native speaker. 

Houses

Talking about houses is very common in the intermediate level. Can you keep a conversation about this issue for about three minutes? I hope so. First you will need some vocabulary. Then you will need some ideas. And  finally to have some fun and check you remember some of the vocabulary you have learnt, you can always take part in this interactive activity. I hope it is challenging enought for you to enjoy it. 

Modal Verbs of Obligation

We have all heard about modal verbs of obligation. But do we know how to use them? Read this document and you will know more about them. But in order to check if you have them under control, don't you want to try filling the gaps in the following exercise? 

Education

Are  you sure you remember most of the words you have learnt about education? Do you want to check you do?  Before you have second thoughts, I will encourage you to do this crossword. I am pretty sure you will do well!

Reported speech

I am sure you have reported more than once what someone had said before. It is quite easy, isn't it? We do that every time we spread some gossip. Here, you will find some rules to do it in English. And now, if you need to check you have it under control, try with this online test. Oh, I forgot that in case you run out of reporting verbs, just have a look at this. 

Guess the film!

Well, the weekend is getting closer and you might think it's going to be really dull. So, why not trying to guess the film while racking your brain for a while? I am sure you will excel at it!  

Conditional sentences. Types 0, 1, 2 and 3

Who said conditional sentences are difficult? I didn't. If somebody did, it would be a blatant lie. They are quite easy. Just read the information on the document and you will understand everything perfectly well. If you are still brave enough to do the video quiz. Go for it!

Infinitive versus gerund

Whether you are studying first or second year of the intermediate level, it is important to know when to use an infinitive or a gerund. This page might help you. But you need to read it slowly and carefully. And then you might need to do something and maybe something else to practise it. Don't you think?

What do you know about the modals of deduction?

Do you know how to use the modals of deduction in the present and in the past? If you do, make deductions in the following activity. If you don't, have a look at this page and then maybe everything will be more clear.  

Echo questions

Do you know what Echo Questions are? They are different from tag questions. One of the reasons why they are different is because they are not issued by the speaker itself but like the listener. If you want to know more about them, what can you do? First, you can visit this page. And then you can watch this video. If you can do this follow-up activity and you have a good score, it means you've got the hang of Echo questions.

Don't you think that music is like a balm? If you want to feel better, listen to this piece of music, or maybe this other while you do the next activity.

Do you remember how to describe people?

If you don't remember the parts of the body, have a good time doing this interactive activity. Do you want some practice examples about how to describe someone? Just watch this video. If you have problems to recognize some personality features, visit the following page and you will know all of them. Have you forgotten how to put some adjectives in order? No problem. Fill in the gaps

Given that you have read the information about the passive voice and you want to put your knowledge to the test, don't be afraid to do this interactive activity. You might find it exciting. 

Dictation.

I know that dictations are not in fashion any longer. However, good spelling, correct punctuation and well-used grammar are important issues to pass an exam in English. This dictation can help you to do it.
This one is full of sentences in the passive voice. For further information about the passive voice visit this page. (Reliable, detailed information which I didn't create). But if you want something simpler, visit this other page. 

Wouldn't you like to do a matching exercise with these beautiful proverbs?

Well, supposing you are sitting down with nothing interesting to do, or you have things to do but you don't feel like doing them, match the beginnings and ends of these proverbs. It will be exciting! Or so I hope.
